“Be yourself, everyone is already taken” – Oscar Wilde
Photographers who work with me say I have a cliche pose, where I smile and look away. Most of my pictures on my Instagram profile would be nodding in agreement. A very simple reason succeeds this generalization, I don’t want to look odd.
Do any of us?
High school has been left behind, but not the peer pressure. Young or old, everyone it seems is scared of looking odd, of being seen as weird. We all seem to be hiding from each other, and somehow hiding with each other. I want to be like her and she wants to look like me. The importance of being different seems to get lost on everyone.
When you own yourself, exactly the way you are, the world will eventually confirm. And even if it doesn’t, you need to take ownership of who you are. Trust me, you are fine!
No. You are amazing!
For this shoot, I let go of myself and the idea of looking a certain way, you can call me weird, you can call me odd, I call myself natural. After all, isn’t natural the new normal? My hair is all over the place, I am hardly smiling, in fact you might just see me scowling as well, my bulges are visible and my poses are awkward, but well, that’s me in real life.
That is all of us in real life.
“Everybody is weird. And therefore nobody is.”
