AS IF A(nyone cares)

Words fail her
when she thinks of that night
you would be horrified too
if you had to witness that sight.

Mama taught her
to always be careful
Little did she know
Standing in the corner she was making him drool.

Little girls are taught
to stay away from strangers
how was she to know
her own house screamed danger.

He was her best friend
she read him books
she was so oblivious
to all his disgusting looks.

He wanted her to sleep in his room
she was so happy that day
the thought of playing games was exciting
but not the ones he wanted to play.

The moment his lips touched hers
she knew something was wrong
and then his tongue slipped through
her mind screamed along.

She was strong
she did not buckle
though she hated the fact
her favourite uncle had the last chuckle.

She got saved
she was lucky
but not everyone’s screams are heard
while they are shaken and stirred.

How do we protect our little girls
how do we keep them safe
tell me, i need to know
don’t you see it, don’t you see the blood flow?

They cut her
before she could even bloom
they sucked out her light
and left her alone in that eerie room.

If there was any justice in the universe
the wolves would have been sentenced
but here they are, walking in broad daylight
looking for another prey, another one for this night.
