Sex and the city has been much loved by all the fashionistas all over the world. If there is one woman, who has taught us enormous lessons about life, relationships, friendships and fashion with a lot of wit mixed in it, it is the ever fabulous Carrie Bradshaw.
I relate to this protagonist as we share a love for writing and fashion. Carrie Bradshaw in the series Sex and the City didn’t always get things right. She made mistakes, in love, in friendship and a lot in fashion as well. And maybe that is the reason why I love her character; she is not perfect. She is scatterbrained but passionate. Just like most of us.
10 life lessons from Carrie Bradshaw
1.Never underestimate the concept of self-love
“The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And, if you find someone to love the you that you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
2.Being single doesn’t mean you are alone or lonely. Being single is a choice.
“Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty, sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.”
3.Perfect is boring. Even Carrie knew that.
“I will never be the woman with the perfect hair who can wear white and not spill on it.”
4.When everything goes berserk in your life, your family be it by blood or personal bond is the one who will stand by you.
“The most important thing in your life is your family. There are days you love them and others you don’t, but in the end, they are the people you always come home to. Sometimes it’s the family you are born into and sometimes it’s the one you make for yourself.”
5.You grow, once you let go. Yesterday is gone, and with that your past; let it go.
“Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back. Maybe you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be.”
6.Never love in halves; you will forget to live fully.
“I’m someone who is looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.”
7.This life is weird, difficult and confusing. But always maintain your calm and keep ‘carrie’ing on.
“As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.”
8.Never regret any of your past relationships. Every love story has something to offer.
“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back.”
9.Ours is a fast paced life. It gets knotty and complicated as time goes by. Taking some time out to unwind with our tribe is a bliss.
“In the end I decided I was definitely 34 going on 35, but in a city like New York, with its pace and its pressures, sometimes its important to have a 13-year-old moment. To remember a simpler time when the best thing in life was just hanging out, listening to records and having fun with your friends. In your very own apartment.”
10.Glass half full or half empty? The way you lead your life is through your perspective.
“Life gives you lots of chances to screw up which means you have just as many chances to get it right.”
10 style lessons from Carrie Bradshaw
1.Your wardrobe is your liquid asset.
“I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.”
2.Bags can make or break an outfit.
“Balls are to men, what purses are to women. It’s just a little bag, but we’d feel naked in public without it.”
3.Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and never apologise for your unconventional sartorial choices.
“You shouldn’t have to sacrifice who you are just because somebody else has a problem with it.”
4.There is no ‘right time’ to suit up.
“Maybe the best any of us can do is not to quit, play the hand we have been given and accessorize the outfit we have got.”
5.Colour blocking is an art few have mastered.
6.Never be apprehensive of an all-black outfit
7.Similarly, have the confidence to rock all the colours of the rainbow.
8.Thigh high socks can pump up an otherwise basic outfit.
9.Never be scared to clash stripes. Horizontal, vertical, diagonal…mix ’em away.
10.Don’t mock the hat. Its fabulous!
Carrie Bradshaw did not get it right every single time. She had her own fashion faux pas. But she managed to make a style statement and stand out everywhere she went; be it wearing lingerie in the street or running around Paris in a Versace tulle gown. Never let people tell you what to do and what not.
“Go with your gut and never forget to strut.”
No, Carrie didn’t say this. I did.
